Looking forward to seeing you in our classes!

May 24, What Do Australian Professionals Say About HypnoBirthing?

"As an obstetrician your ultimate aim is for a healthy mother and a healthy baby after the pregnancy and delivery. However if you can enhance the woman's experience so that she is less fearful, more in control and can manage to achieve that much desired intervention free labor then this is a fantastic outcome. With many hundreds of my patients having undertaken this childbirth preparation I am definitely impressed by the way it helps enhance a woman's chances of having a safe and natural delivery." <br>- Dr. Peter Jurcevic - Obstetrician and Maternal Foetal Medicine Specialist, Melbourne<p>

May 20, Newsflash! Canberra Hospital not VBAC friendly??

If you are one of the hundreds of women in Australia who want a natural, un-medicated vaginal birth yet you have had at least one caesarean birth before then you are often faced with a struggle to get the care you desire.

Vaginal Birth After Caesarean (VBAC) is its name and the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends that if you are a healthy pregnant mother, carrying a healthy child then you should attempt to birth your baby vaginally as the risks of repeat caesarean are higher than that of a vaginal birth.

However, in Canberra, although there are hospitals here who will allow VBAC under certain circumstances they may have some very restrictive policies which make it difficult for the labouring mother to achieve the kind of birth she desires.

ASK YOUR OBSTETRICIAN about continuous monitoring, whether you can assume any labour position you like (not possible with continuous monitoring) and how long will they allow you to go "overdue" before they will insist you take the caesarean route.

Please do your due diligence. The hospitals in Canberra are only trying to cover themselves in the event that they must care for an <i>un-informed VBAC labouring mother</i>. If you demonstrate your extensive VBAC knowledge and exercise your rights you may well get the birth you're after!!

May 10, A Beautiful Home Birth Story

This wonderful story was shared just recently by a midwife-in-training who gave birth to her beautiful daughter Chloe in October last year.

The birth story includes her orgasmic birth sensations, using water for pain relief and birthing her "posterior" baby on the bed - all at home! She also goes on to talk about Placenta encapsulation (to give you back some much-needed iron postpartum) and then how she EC-d her daughter (aka "elimination communication" or "natural infant hygiene").

All the wonderful things we promote here at Canberra Natural Birth!

Read it, you'll love it!

Apr 19, Testimonial for HypnoBirthing Classes in Canberra

A natural birth process was definitely on the forefront of our minds but we were not sure if we could do it in a peaceful, gentle way as the 'conventional way' with medical intervention was drummed into us.

We are grateful to have come across HypnoBirthing as the 'normal birthing' approach well ahead of time.

The combination of the theoretical & practical delivery of content really embedded our understanding of what 'natural, normal birthing' actually entailed.

We enjoyed Georgia's teaching & learned a great deal in every session we had with her. Being encouraged to practice what we have learned on an ongoing basis has also reinforced all the teachings.

We are very much looking forward to our calm, relaxing, gentle & joyous birth day for our little one. We cannot recommend this course enough & have already recommended HypnoBirthing to our friends & other couples who are also expecting.

Naturally Knocked Up's blog is all about <i>"Increasing the odds of conception through natural living and nourishing foods."</i><br>

I have known many women who have poly-cystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and Dysmenorrhoea (severe pain during menstruation), both ailments affecting fertility.

I found this wonderful blog today and since we're going bio-dynamic / organic in our lifestyle it really made sense to me, especially since we're making plans to add to our clan in near future!

Click on the link to take a look - it's worth a poke around to read this blog!

Mar 16, Birth Trauma causes spinal injury!

A word of caution, this video is graphic and sometimes horrific. Images of live births with manipulation by doctors, who are sometimes clearly hurting the babies being born. All because they're trying to "help" what should be a natural process.

A natural birth, a TRUE natural birth, avoids these interventions. Learn how you can avoid both birth trauma to yourself and your baby as well as long term spinal and brain injuries by empowering yourself to birth naturally with HypnoBirthing! You CAN do it naturally.<p>

Mar 3, Unassisted Childbirth

While I cannot advocate for an unassisted childbirth in Australia due to legal reasons, this website it is very interesting and empowering reading. It demonstrates that birth is completely natural and normal, and - heaven forbid if you should give birth by the side of the road - you <b>can</b> do it without anyone else there to coach you.

I recommend that you read it for inspiration, not for preparing yourself for an unassisted childbirth of your own.

Feb 25, Pregnancy, Labour and Birth - What's Pain Got To Do With It? by Kim Wildner

There is no doubt that painful birth has been the experience of millions of women. So prevalent in our society is this concept, that it is a given that birth must be an excruciating ordeal. Women who have had painless births are dismissed as liars or delusional 'naturalists' in books like Misconceptions by Naomi Wolfe. I've heard young mothers-to-be exclaim, "I just couldn't do it without the epidural!" and "I don't want to feel a single thing!" because they have so much fear over the pain that they assume must be inherent in birth.

Let them cling to the notion that suffering and birthing are two sides of the same coin. I want to explore the possibility of painless birth... without drugs.

Wait! I'm not crazy! Years ago when I first read about painless birth my reaction was also "Yeah, right!" but I've changed my beliefs regarding birth and pain. I hope I can help alleviate the fear for the reader as well... (read more)
