Georgia Julian HypnoBirthing Instructor - Georgia Julian.

My professional background is in International Relations and Linguistics. I have a Bachelor's Degree from the ANU and a Post Graduate Diploma of Education from the University of Canberra, and have taught and tutored young children to adults in French, Japanese and Spanish for over 15 years. I have spent many years in Japan working for the Saga Prefectural Government to further International Relations between Saga and Asia in particular, and upon my return to Australia I was the Australian national coordinator for the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program at the Embassy of Japan in Canberra.

I have always been interested in Complimentary Therapies ever since my childhood, and I grow, use and administer herbal remedies and tisanes daily. I have also studied Homeopathy for several years with the College of SAFE Therapies in Queensland. Since the birth of my daughter I have left the corporate career ladder to pursue a life of organic self-sustainability.

The birth of my daughter lead me to become passionate about HypnoBirthing and my desire to share this valuable birthing tool with others grew daily as I heard the traumatic birthing stories of women I met. I knew they could have the birth they dreamed of, if only they had heard about HypnoBirthing!

Over the years I have taught many HypnoBirthing clients. Since having my daughter I have done professional development research and courses into how a woman's birthing experience affects her, and how the pregnancy, birth and first three years of a baby's life shape the child's personality and ability to trust and relate to their peers.

I am very aware of the fear that pregnant women have about the birthing process - I did too! After taking my own HypnoBirthing course as a pregnant woman in Auckland, NZ in mid 2008 my instructor commented that with my organisational skills, teaching background and personality that I would make a great HypnoBirthing instructor too! I laughed it off at the time, but the thought stayed with me. It wasn't until I returned to Australia in December 2008 that I re-opened the possibility of teaching HypnoBirthing, and I was truly shocked to find that there were no HypnoBirthing instructors in Canberra!

I don't believe in coincidences, I had to take on that role. So I trained with the HypnoBirthing Institute, received my qualification, founded Canberra Natural Birth and began practicing in 2009. Since then, I have received many wonderful birthing stories (which you can read in the Testimonials section) and have kept in touch with many of my mums as they make the decision to have another child. Hearing their wonderful birthing stories is truly rewarding.

I am a Senior Member of the HypnoBirthing Institute, a member of the Australian Hypnotherapists Association, a Natural Therapist and Herbalist, Breastfeeding Advocate, an Attachment Parent, Teacher and Practitioner specializing in empowering women to achieve the peaceful and calm birthing they so desire. I have written and published many articles on HypnoBirthing and natural parenting.

My goal is to communicate the positive and empowering message that women are master creators of their world and they hold the power to influence their realities and their futures in a way that benefits all.

I carry Professional Indemnity/Public Liability Insurance and parents can be assured of receiving a total and professional commitment from the moment they enter my HypnoBirthing Classes.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for further information.

Amy Chin-Atkins HypnoBirthing Instructor & Doula - Amy Chin-Atkins

Amy became a Instructor, HypnoBirthing Practitioner and Doula following her belief that babies and mothers deserve the absolute best possible start in life. Amy, a mother of three, passionately supports families in their journey of pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding, informing and encouraging them with their individual birth choices and helping them to realise the best experiences that they can achieve.

Amy’s professional background is in research, she has a first class honours and PhD in Molecular Biology from ANU. When her husband was posted to Singapore, she obtained a research fellowship at the National University of Singapore, and they were soon expecting their first child. The birth was a typical hospital, obstetrically-managed birth, and the baby required time in the special care unit due to a bad reaction and fever from the drugs and forceps used during the labour. However, after a rocky start, breastfeeding was established, and Amy went on to become a breastfeeding counselor, and then a counselor trainer with Singapore’s breastfeeding association.

With her second pregnancy, she decided that there must be a better way to birth for her and her baby’s sake, and hired a doula. This time, as an informed and empowered birthing mother, she achieved a totally natural birth in one of the world's busiest maternity hospitals (quite a rare event, where every woman has an obstetrician and actively managed birth). She chose to go to this hospital, primarily because her Obstetrician wanted to see a natural birth. He missed the birth (as the labour was so easy and fast) but he has since gone on to become Singapore's leading natural birth and only homebirth Doctor.

Following the natural high of her birth (which lasted weeks!), Amy decided to change careers and become a doula herself, training with the precursor of Childbirth International. Amy’s first doula role was for a friend in 2001, after which she was hooked. She has since supported many more mothers including first-time mothers and mothers who have had multiple babies, caesarians, VBACs, breech, and births at hospital and at home. She has been an instructor for antenatal, postnatal and parenting, breastfeeding, baby massage, elimination communication (natural infant hygiene) and babywearing classes.

In 2002 she founded Four Trimesters, which has grown to become the leading HypnoBirthing Institute in Asia, supporting over 250 births and teaching antenatal classes to over 500 couples.

When the family was transferred from Singapore with her husband's work, Amy continued to support families in London, then Copenhagen. While living in Copenhagen, she was an invited 'baby expert' on the "Richard and Judy Show", prime time live to 5 million viewers in the UK.

For Amy’s third birth, she chose an unassisted homebirth, with only her husband and 2 older children present, which for the family was an incredibly bonding, moving – and humorous - experience.

Amy has been personally taught or mentored by such birth and parenting legends such as Marie Mongan (founder of the HypnoBirthing Institute), Michel Odent, Sue Cox, Sarah Buckley, Debra Pascali-Bonaro, Lawrence Gartner (Chairman of the American Academy of Pediatrics' Breast-Feeding Section) and Doris Fok (first IBCLC in Asia). She has also appeared in many books and websites including "Adventures in Tandem Nursing", "Close to Mama's Heart", "Breastfeeding Older Children", and KellyMOM.com. Amy has also written for or been featured in various parenting magazines and also national daily newspapers.

Amy now offers her doula services and breastfeeding counseling in Canberra, so that she can share the benefits of HypnoBirthing to local families now that she is settled back in her hometown. Amy is the only HypnoBirthing Doula in the ACT and is keen to teach and support people to also experience a joyous pregnancy, a comfortable birth, and successful breastfeeding. Please see her website Birth and Baby care for more details.
